About Us

السلام عليكم

Asalaamu AlaiIykum and welcome.

My name is Veida, and I’m the founder of Rahmah Roots — a Bay Area birth collective created to support and uplift Muslim families throughout the perinatal journey.

Rahmah Roots was born out of a deep need: too many Muslim families struggled to find care that honored their faith, culture, and values. Whether looking for a Muslim midwife, OB/GYN, doula, or lactation consultant, the options were few—and many felt unseen during such a sacred time.

I know this struggle personally. As a Muslim woman and a birthworker, I often found it difficult to connect with providers who truly understood where I was coming from—providers who honored not just the clinical side of care, but the spiritual, cultural, and emotional layers that are just as important. It made me realize how deeply our community needed spaces where identity and care could exist together, without compromise.

Our mission is to change that. We connect families with compassionate, culturally aligned providers and weave rahmah(mercy), dignity, and trust into every step of care.

The name Rahmah Roots carries deep meaning. In Arabic, "rahmah" not only means mercy—it shares the same root word as "womb" (رحم), symbolizing nurturing, protection, and unconditional care. "Roots" represent our deep connection to faith, family, and the ancestral wisdom that grounds and nourishes us. Together, Rahmah Roots reflects our vision: to grow a foundation of birthwork that is firmly rooted in mercy, compassion, and sacred connection.

But Rahmah Roots isn’t just for families. It's also a resource and network for Muslim perinatal professionals—to outsource, refer, collaborate, and stay connected with one another. By building these relationships, we strengthen our ability to serve families with excellence and support one another in our shared mission of compassionate care.

As a birth and postpartum doula myself, I know how powerful it is to feel understood. But Rahmah Roots is bigger than me—it’s a growing community of Muslim birth workers walking alongside you with shared intention and care. You shouldn’t have to choose between excellent care and staying true to who you are.

Welcome to a space where your journey is honored, your identity is celebrated, and your support system is rooted in faith and compassion.
